Bicycle trails

The Upper Nitra Region's local color offers its visitors unforgettable experiences. If it can be said a view of the world from the back of a horse is memorable, then the view from the seat of a bicycle of the beautiful Upper Nitra countryside is among those never to be forgotten moments in this picturesque region. A number of asphalt, farm and forest trails as well as open plains entice visitors to get acquainted with the architecture, customs and points of interest in this corner of Slovakia. Some of the bicycle trails are sporadically used during working days for hauling out wood. In such a case, it is necessary to watch out and when meeting with a motor vehicle it is better to wait for it to pass and then continue further.

Tužina - Gápeľ
Brief description of the trail: length 10 km; moderate; suitable for children; paved concrete and unpaved forest roads; moderate-grade hills

Handlová - Stanište
Brief description of the trail: length 2.5 km; moderate; suitable for children; paved concrete and unpaved forest roads; moderate-grade hills. The "Strieborná Jedľa" (Silver Fir) crossroad sign indicates the Handlová - Veľká Lehôtka trail that continues over a paved forest road to the village of Hradec. At the edge of the forest is the "Stanište" recreational facility.

Handlová - Veľká Lehôtka
Brief description of the trail: length 7.8 km; moderate; suitable for children - paved concrete and unpaved forest roads; moderate-grade hills. The bicycle trail begins in Handlová at the edge of the forest under the "Pfaftenberg" mountain. The trail continues further along a paved forest road toward the "Tri Studničky" (Three Springs) recreational center, where there is a turnoff after almost 2.4 km under Malý Grič. The route continues on a forest trail and 1.8 km later arrives at "Strieborná Jedľa" where it intersects with the Handlová -Stanište bicycle trail. It is then 3.6 km further to the village of Veľká Lehôtka.

Remata - Sklené
Brief description of the trail: length 4 km; moderate; suitable for children; paved concrete and unpaved forest roads; high-grade hills
The bicycle trail begins at a turnoff from the main road between Prievidza and Handlová, where there is an underpass, heads toward the Remata recreational center and then continues on a farm road to the Baník na Remate recreational center. The route then goes onto a forest road that goes through woods and then meadows along a ridge before reaching the bicycle trail's destination in the village of Sklené.

Nedožery -Brezany - Malá Čausa - Ráztočno - Remata
Brief description of the trail: length 16.3 km; moderate; suitable for older children; paved asphalt and concrete and unpaved forest roads; moderate-grade hills. The trail begins in the village of Nedožery - Brezany and runs 1 km along an asphalt road toward the "Ostrá" (Sharp) Valley. The route continues on a paved road through a forest with a turning after 3.5 km toward Malá Čausa. After going a further 3 km, the trail comes to Jalovec, continues approximately 2 km toward Ráztočno and then ends at the stone quarry in Remata, once the final 2.5 km are negotiated. Here there is a possibility to bicycle along the main Handlová - Prievidza road or return back along the same trail.

Prievidza - Nedožery - Brezany
Brief description of the trail: length 5.4 km; easy; suitable for children; paved asphalt and concrete and unpaved forest roads; moderate-grade hills. This is not a very difficult bicycle route that begins near the entrance gate to the Lesopark in the Sever (North) neighborhood, winds through a forest and then goes on a farm road, from where a forest road turns off and heads to the "Klčovňa" gamekeeper's lodge. You can take your first rest stop here or continue onward. The route travels past an intersection and onto an asphalt road that takes you to the destination of your trip. In the village, you can visit some of the tourist and cultural points of interest - The Church to St. Helene and Christ the King and a rustic house with a storage bin for corn and seeds, which is a national cultural monument - or go refresh yourself at the water dam and savor the fish specialties at the nearby restaurant.
If you elect to return in the opposite direction from the village of Nedožery-Brezany, the turnoff onto the forest path is approximately 1 kilometer away.
